Each course is packed with essential clinical information to keep you up to date on various critical care topics. Many offer the opportunity to earn accredited continuing education (ACE) credits and maintenance of certification (MOC) points. Course prices vary. Register early to secure your seat!

Registration for pre-Congress education opportunities should be done in conjunction with Congress. Attendees must participate in person.

Airway and Mechanical Ventilation Management

Hands-On Course

Review airway and mechanical ventilation management strategies for critically ill patients. Topics covered include airway assessment; emergent intubation; airway management pharmacology; rescue techniques for maintaining ventilation; traditional and novel techniques for difficult airway management adult patients; and indications, contraindications, and benefits of ventilatory support modes. After studying the text and viewing the presentations online, attend this full-day skills session and learn and practice with expert faculty at interactive skill stations encompassing laryngoscopy, fiberoptic intubation, surgical approaches to airway establishment, and rescue strategies. Skill stations on mechanical ventilation will focus on mode selection, troubleshooting patient-ventilator dyssynchrony, and alternative modes available for the critically ill adult patient. Hands-on simulations allow learners instruction and practice in difficult airway management and mechanical ventilation. Using simulation-based scenarios, learners will gain valuable experience.

Expand your fundamental echocardiographic skills and knowledge in this hands-on half-day course. Receive active training with an echosonographer aimed at pro tips for image optimization. Learn to interpret certain pathologic images such as quantifying mitral regurgitation, aortic stenosis, deceleration time, and pressure half-time. Plus, practice performing measurements and tracings using pathologic examples. Expert faculty will review the basics of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) imaging using a TEE simulator and discuss the indications for and risks of performing TEE.

Deep Dive: Pulmonary Embolus Response Team (PERT) Service Line

From door to discharge and beyond, learn the steps needed to establish a service line to manage patients who present with pulmonary embolus (PE) or who develop PE during their hospital stay. ELSO Extracorporeal Membranous Oxygenation (ECMO) Simulation Course

Held in partnership with the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization

Explore venoarterial and venovenous ECMO concepts using patient case scenarios during either one-day course. In a small-group setting, participants have an opportunity for interactive learning and troubleshooting of clinical cases. This course is structured for multiprofessional learning at various stages of experience. Learners should have completed the ELSO Virtual ECMO Training Course or have a strong foundational knowledge of ECMO patient care.
