This aim of this session is to recruit, train, and engage early-career faculty who are interested in the peer review process while increasing diversity in the peer reviewer pool. Session highlights include comparing and contrasting high-quality versus low-quality reviews, defining predatory journals, discussing the process of peer review, and overcoming imposter syndrome. Supplemental materials will support attendees in their goal to become peer reviewers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the process of peer review, how to critically appraise a manuscript, critical components of a review, and writing positive but constructive feedback
  • Compare and contrast high-quality versus low-quality reviews
  • Explore the concepts of research misconduct and academic integrity and how they apply to research, scientific writing, and publication
