This session brings together three key advancements shaping practice today: the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine/Society of Critical Care Medicine consensus on refractory septic shock, the development and application of the Sequential Orgain Failure Assessment 2 score, and emerging national consensus on the role of critical care pharmacists.

Learning Objectives:

  • Derive the process and methodology of ascertaining consensus on clinical criteria for refractory septic shock
  • Define the clinical criteria for the proposed definition
  • Propose and discuss limitations of the criteria and future steps for validation
  • Describe the components and methodology of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment 2 score and its application in assessing organ dysfunction
  • Explain the limitations of predictive scoring systems and the clinical value of descriptive scores in critical care decision-making
  • Assess multidisciplinary implications for patient outcomes, team performance, and workload management
