Dr. Purvi P. Patel, MD, MHPE, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Medical Education at
Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She serves as Program Director for the Surgical
Critical Care Fellowship and Co-Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Loyola University Medical
Center. Board-certified in General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Neurocritical Care, Dr. Patel
completed her medical degree at Rush Medical College, followed by residency in General Surgery and
fellowships in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma/Acute Care Surgery. She also holds a Master’s in Health
Professions Education from the University of Illinois Chicago. Her clinical expertise spans trauma,
emergency general surgery, and critical care, with a strong commitment to advancing surgical education
and leadership development.
Nationally recognized for her contributions to surgical education and trauma care, Dr. Patel has held
leadership roles in major professional societies, including the Association for Academic Surgery, the
American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. She has
authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on topics such as traumatic brain
injury, hemostatic resuscitation, and disaster ethics. A dedicated educator, she has served as course
director and faculty for national programs and is actively involved in curriculum development and
mentorship. Her work has earned multiple teaching awards and honors, reflecting her passion for
improving patient outcomes and training the next generation of surgeons.
