Dr. Scott A. Harvey, MD is an obstetrician/gynecologist subspecialized in surgical critical care, holding dual roles in the Obstetric Hospitalist Division and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at UC San Diego Health. He is among the few recognized “obstetric intensivists” in the country and serves as Past Chair of the Fundamentals of Critical Care Support–Obstetrics Course for the Society of Critical Care Medicine. In 2024, he was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM).
Dr. Harvey completed his undergraduate studies at Pepperdine University, where he competed on an athletic scholarship in water polo. He went on to the University of Hawai‘i, earning a Master of Science in Human Physiology, a Doctor of Medicine, and completing residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health, followed by fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care.
He served for five years as an Assistant Clinical Professor with University Health Partners of Hawai‘i and the John A. Burns School of Medicine before joining UC San Diego, where he is now an Associate Clinical Professor and since 2023 has served as Director of Labor and Delivery at UC San Diego Health.
Dr. Harvey further specializes in cesarean hysterectomies for placenta accreta spectrum disorders and splits his clinical work 50/50 between surgical critical care and obstetrics.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, surfing, skiing, and biking.
