I am a physician-scientist associate professor. Clinically I work as a Pediatric Critical Care Physician and scientifically I have a broad background in biochemistry, cell biology, and animal models of acute lung injury. My primary research focus is on how cell metabolism is connected to inflammation. I have now expanded my research interest on metabolic crosstalk between the alveolar epithelium and airway macrophages in acute lung injury and how metabolites such as lactate can serve as epigenetic regulators. My long-term goal is to improve the understanding of the intersection of metabolism and inflammatory activation, as it is an emerging, important concept for novel therapeutic concepts for lung disease. Since 2017 I also serve as the associate director for fellowship research for our Pediatric Critical Care program and since 2022 as the Associate program dierector for the Pediatric resident physician-scientist developement track at COlorado Children's Hospital.
