Dr. Angela Hays Shapshak is a neurointensivist and vascular neurologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she holds an appointment as a Professor of Neurology and Anesthesiology. She is actively involved in both research and education and currently serves as the Director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship program as well as the Associate Director of the Neurology Residency Program. She has served in several leadership roles at local and national levels, including serving as the founding chair of the Accreditation, Certification and Training Committee (ACT) of the Neurocritical Care Society, serving on the ACGME Neurocritical Care Milestones Task Force, and participating in the Society for Critical Care Medicine Critical Care as a Specialty Task Force. She has been a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine since 2008 and currently serves on the Neuroscience Section Steering Committee. Her research interests include intracranial hemorrhage, disorders of consciousness and neurological outcomes following critical illness.
