Dr. Arenth is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, where he practices Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Palliative Care and serves as Medical Director for Pediatric Bioethics. He completed residency at NC Children’s Hospital at UNC Chapel Hill followed by Pediatric Critical Care fellowship at Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt before returning to UNC to complete a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. He also holds a certificate in Biomedical Ethics from the Vanderbilt Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society, and serves as co-chair of the MUSC Ethics Committee, and is a Certified Healthcare Ethics Consultant. His primary research interest involves factors affecting shared decision making with families of critically ill children and educational initiatives to promote best practices in shared decision making in pediatric ICUs.
