Dr. Derrington, MD, MA Bioethics, HEC-C is the inaugural director of the Center for Bioethics at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine, an attending physician in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and the Director of Research Ethics at the Southern California Clinical Translational Science Institute. Dr. Derrington obtained her medical degree from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University Chicago. She completed her residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She is a certified healthcare ethics consultant, an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Bioethics, and a past board member and secretary of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities. Her research focuses on health equity concerns in the context of pediatric critical illness, communication and shared decision-making, and genomics. She has more than twelve years of experience conducting clinical ethics consultations, teaching ethics, and contributing to organizational policy and ethics program development. In addition to her work in bioethics and critical care, Dr. Derrington practiced as a pediatric palliative care consultant for nearly a decade, both at CHLA and at Robert H. and Ann Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. She has been a member of SCCM since 2009 and has served as chair of the Pediatric Palliative Care Sub-Committee and Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee.
