Dr. Lorraine Ware is the Ralph and Lulu Owen Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She is an expert in diagnosis and treatment of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). For the past two decades, she has led a large translational research group that focuses on the pathophysiology and biomarkers of sepsis, ARDS, and acute kidney injury in critical illness. In addition to biomarker studies, basic and translational studies in her laboratory are currently focused on the role of cell-free hemoglobin as a mediator of oxidative injury and end-organ dysfunction in sepsis, and ARDS.
