Dr. Wax is the Chief of Staff and a medical/surgical intensivist at Lakeridge Health in Durham Region, just east of Toronto, Canada. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Queen's University. Dr. Wax is a Transport Medicine Physician with Ornge, Ontario's Air Ambulance and Critical Care Transport Service. He oversees critical care services for the Central East Subregion of Ontario as Physician Subregion Lead with Ontario Health. Dr. Wax has served in leadership roles with SCCM as Chair of the Fundamental Disaster Management course, Co-Chair of the Rapid Response Team course, and has participated in Society disaster response efforts in response to the H1N1 Influenza Pandemic and the earthquake disaster in Haiti/Dominican Republic. He co-chaired the group responsble for the SCCM/ACCM Guidelines on Recognizing and Responding to Clinical Deterioration Outside the Intensive Care Unit published in 2024. Dr. Wax is also the Co-Chair of the Critical Care Response Team Network for Critical Care Services Ontario. Dr. Wax's academic interests include Cardiac Arrest, Septic Shock, Medical Education, Simulation, Disaster Medicine/Triage and Biohazard Reponse. He has served as an investigator for multiple sepsis clinical trials, including active work evaluating the role of methylene blue in septic shock. He has received many awards including multiple Presidential Citations from SCCM, the Certificate of Merit from the Canadian Association for Medical Education, and the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
