University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Roger Fan, MD is a pulmonary and critical care physician-scientist at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His research focuses on the neuroendocrine regulation of inflammation and metabolism during critical illness, with an emphasis on the melanocortin system and alpha-melanocyte–stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Using genetic and physiological approaches, Dr. Fan studies how brain–pituitary signaling pathways influence immune responses to infection and systemic stress. Clinically, he cares for patients in the medical intensive care unit and on the inpatient pulmonary consult service. His long-term goal is to translate mechanistic discoveries in neuroendocrine–immune crosstalk into novel therapeutic strategies for critical illness.
