Dr. Charlotte Thomas, DNP-DNES, RN, AGACNP-BC, CCRN, FCCM, became the inaugural Vice President of Advanced Practice for New Jersey’s Hackensack Meridian Health in December 2025. A Critical Care Nurse Practitioner for more than a decade, she most recently practiced at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, California, near the U.S.–Mexico border.
Dr. Thomas began her career by enlisting in the U.S. Army after high school, where she trained as a ground combat medic and later advanced to flight paramedic, accumulating more than 850 flight hours in missions around the world. Following her honorable discharge, she utilized her GI Bill benefits to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University in Florida and began her nursing career in intensive care. She went on to earn dual doctorates—a Doctor of Nursing Practice (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) and a Doctor of Nursing Education Sciences—from the University of South Alabama. In total, she has spent more than 30 years providing care to the acutely ill and injured, and in 2024 was awarded Fellowship by the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) in recognition of her sustained contributions to the field.
Dr. Thomas’s professional interests include disaster medicine and response, healthcare equity for underserved and underrepresented populations, and the strategic integration of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to expand access and enhance continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
