Dr. Matthew Guess, MD is a Critical Care Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. He completed his Undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of California, Davis in 2008 before attending the University of Virginia School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree in 2015. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in 2019, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. After practicing community Emergency Medicine for several years he returned to academic medicine at the University of Pittsburgh where he is a current second year fellow in Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine. His research interests include health system resiliency, interhospital transfers, the health of refugees/displaced persons, international humanitarian aid and health policy.
