Paolo (Paul) Lacanienta, MD, is a neurocritical care fellow at Rush University Medical Center. He completed his neurology residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Lacanienta’s academic interests include neurocritical care education, curriculum development, and simulation-based training aimed at improving multidisciplinary teamwork and patient safety in the Neuro-ICU. He has been actively involved in resident mentorship and medical education and has presented clinical and educational work at regional and national meetings. His clinical interests include acute brain injury, refractory seizures, neuroinfectious disease, and complex cerebrovascular pathology.
Dr. Lacanienta plans to pursue a career in academic neurocritical care with a focus on clinical excellence, research, and working closely with trainees across disciplines. Outside of medicine, he enjoys fishing, hiking, and spending time outdoors.
