Shayan Mahapatra, MD, FAPCR, is an Academic Hospitalist and Associate Program Director at Aiken Regional Medical Centers and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, with a scholarly focus at the intersection of hospital medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care. His research focuses on the early detection of lung cancer, with a particular emphasis on the management of indeterminate pulmonary nodules using integrated clinical, imaging, and blood-based biomarkers and radiomics to reduce the time to diagnosis and minimize unnecessary invasive procedures.
Dr. Mahapatra has co-authored peer-reviewed work in high-impact venues, including the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and other journals. His publications have collectively been cited over 100 times, reflecting a growing impact in biomarker-driven risk prediction and clinical utility trial design. He is nationally involved as Secretary-Elect of the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (APCR), Chair of the APCR Social Media Committee, Chair of the IMG Committee for the South Carolina Chapter of the American College of Physicians, and serves as an ABIM Item Writer.
