Franklyn Vega Batista, MD, is a postgraduate year-2 Internal Medicine resident physician at Rutgers Health–Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey. He is an international medical graduate with a strong academic focus on critical care medicine, cardiovascular physiology, and hemodynamic management in critically ill patients.
Dr. Vega Batista is the lead author of a recently published systematic review in Critical Care Research and Practice examining the emerging role of droxidopa as an adjunctive therapy for vasopressor weaning in the intensive care unit. His research centers on complex shock states, autonomic dysfunction, and innovative pharmacologic strategies to optimize hemodynamic support in critically ill populations. He is also involved in multiple quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving inpatient care delivery, patient safety, and outcomes in hospitalized patients.
In addition to his research activities, Dr. Vega Batista is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. He has served as a teaching assistant in pathology and physiology and is actively involved in the instruction and supervision of medical students and junior trainees.
Dr. Vega Batista plans to pursue fellowship training and a career in academic medicine, with a focus on critical care research, education, and systems-based improvements in the care of critically ill and medically complex patients.
