Dr. Abayomi Kolawole Ojo (MBBS, pgDA, FWACS) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Nigeria, and a Consultant Intensive care physician at the university’s teaching hospital.
An Anaesthetist and Intensive care physician with several years of clinical and academic experience, he previously served at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, where his research on the financial burden of critical care in Nigeria earned the 2025 Emirates Critical Care Poster Presentation Award.
Dr. Ojo obtained his medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and completed both his Diploma and Fellowship in Anaesthesia at the West African College of Surgeons. He further enhanced his training through an Observership in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Open Medical Institute and the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, and holds a Certificate of Achievement from the WFICC Critical Care Research Academy.
His professional interests include intensive care in low-resource settings, regional anaesthesia, sleep, perioperative safety, and strengthening critical care systems. He has several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Ojo also serves in leadership roles as Treasurer of the Nigerian Sleep Society and Publicity Secretary of the Society of Obstetric Anaesthetists of Nigeria, and he is an active member of several national and international professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists, Intensive and Critical Care Society of Nigeria, Society of Critical Care Medicine, World Sleep Society, and Sleep Research Society.
