John Hunninghake, MD

Wesley Medical Center

Dr. Hunninghake is a Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine attending at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, where he serves as the Facility's ICU Medical Director as a part of Intensive Care Consortium (ICC), in addition to the Wesley ECMO Program Medical Director. He earned his Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. As a recipient of the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), he completed both Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship as part of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). He has served as a member and leader on various committees, councils, and boards through the American College of Physicians (ACP), American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). After completion of his active duty service commitment, Lt Col Hunninghake joined the 934th ASTS (Minneapolis, Minnesota) as part of Air Force Reserves where he contributes as the Simulation Director for the Sustainment Training platform as part of the Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT). Over the course of his career, Dr. Hunninghake has received several academic and military awards, including: GME Faculty-of-the-Year award, Provider-of-the-Year award, Roth Leadership Award for Simulation, Col. Donald Null Distinguished Graduating Fellow, Outstanding Fellow Teacher for Internal Medicine, Most Valued Resident Instructor, and Maj. John H. Gillespie Distinguished Graduating Intern. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine through the Uniformed Service University. His areas of interest include: clinical skills education, simulation-based training, virtual health, and extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation.
