Dr. Hirshberg currently serves as a Professor at Intermountain Health and in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah. Her primary appointment is in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care with an adjunct in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care. As a dedicated practitioner of both adult and pediatric critical care, her specific clinical interests involve investigating the disparities and links between adult and childhood physiology. Her academic interests include qualitative investigation into humanizing the ICU and the patient experience as well as critical care trials in adult and pediatric patients. As the Director of Center for Humanizing Critical Care at Intermountain Healthcare, She leads a team of clinicians and researchers who are dedicated to improving communication, medical sytem expereince and the quality of life and outcomes for critically ill patients and their families. She has over 18 years of experience as a critical care physician, treating adults and children and their families with complex and life-threatening conditions. She is the lead physician and founder of Intermountain's Post ICU Aftercare and Recovery Clinic, and has expanded her training and practice to include Hopsice and Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Hirshberg is a cross-disciplinary clinical researcher, with a master's degree in clinical science and research, and multiple board certifications in internal medicine, pediatrics, adult critical care, pediatric critical care, hospice and palliative medicine, and echocardiography. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and received several grants and awards.
