Sue Brierley-Hobson is an Assistant Director for Allied Health Professions and Health Science at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales in the UK, and a Registered Dietitian by background. She graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Chester in 2007 and completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at Bangor University in 2018.
Sue’s clinical and research interests focus on Critical Care Nutrition and on understanding how historical, organisational, and cultural contexts influence the implementation of evidence-based practice. Her early work included a before-and-after study that improved critical care nutrition practice using volume-basef feeding, published in Critical Care in 2019. She is currently completing her PhD, which investigates the influence of organisational history on the implementation of nutrition best practice in critical care, using a multi-site ethnographic case study approach grounded in qualitative inquiry.
An enthusiastic advocate for developing research capacity among allied health professionals, Sue serves as Co-Lead for the Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) in the UK, working with colleagues to encourage engagement in research, evaluation, improvement, and innovation.
Her previous publications also include work exploring nutrient-induced cancer cell apoptosis (BioHorizons, 2008). In recognition of her contribution to advancing dietetic practice, Sue received the British Dietetic Association’s Ibex Award in 2020.
As an early career researcher, Sue is passionate about bridging research and practice to improve patient outcomes and strengthen critical care nutrition worldwide. She is delighted to attend the SCCM Congress, and looks forward to sharing her work, learning from international colleagues, and contributing to the global dialogue on advancing critical care practice.
