Dr. Badjatia is the Chief of Neurocritical Care in the Program in Trauma and Professor and Executive Vice Chair in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his Neurology residency at Emory University and training in Neurocritical Care and Vascular Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Badjatia has been an active member of SCCM since 2002 is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM). He is also an active member of the Neurocritical Care Society, having served twice on the Board of Directors, as well as Associate Editor for Neurocritical Care. He is currently on the editorial board for the Neurology, Translational Stroke, Journal of Neurotrauma, Therapeutic Hypothermia and Temperature Management and editor-in-chief of Neurocritical Care On Call. His research interests focus on targeted temperature management strategies, impact of nutrition and metabolism on recovery after subarachnoid hemorrhage, and development of machine learning models to identify secondary injury after traumatic brain injury using continuous physiological data. Funding sources for this work include the National Institute of Health, Department of Defense, and the Neurocritical Care Society.
