Dr. Andrew Prout, MD, MPH is a pediatric intensivist and Assistant Professor at Central Michigan University and Children's Hospital of MIchigan, He is committed to advancing the care of critically ill children through the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, advancing knowledge through patient-oriented research, and training the next generation of pediatric intensivists, pediatricians, and emergency medicine physicians. He is a translational clinician-scientist focused on the role of the intestinal microbiome in immune heterogeneity in critical illness. His long-term career goal is to develop targeted interventions to reduce death and disability due to pathologic changes in the intestinal microbiome and subsequent immune dysregulation in critically ill children. He is currently supported by a national K12 award from the Pediatric Critical Care and Trauma Scientist Development Program and is developing a cohort of critically ill infants after cardiopulmonary bypass with high-resolution microbiome and immunologic data to assist in better understanding the role of the microbiome in immune heterogeneity in critical illness. He is also invested in multicenter and multidisciplinary research across the field of pediatric critical care.
