Dr. Kevin Gochenour is a 2nd-Year Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow at the University of Michigan. He has a background in emergency medical services, pediatrics, and health services research, with particular research interests in respiratory failure management for critically ill adolescents and young adults.
Dr. Gochenour earned his Doctor of Medicine, with distinction in Service and Community Health, from the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Northern Arizona University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, with an emphasis in paleontology and minors in chemistry, biology, and anthropology.
Before entering medicine, Dr. Gochenour worked as a flight paramedic and clinical educator for over ten years, gaining practical experience in acute and critical care settings. His research includes work as a principal investigator and co-investigator on projects addressing respiratory failure outcomes for AYA patients in pediatric and adult intensive care units, as well as multidiscplinary approaches to pain management during air medical transport.
Dr. Gochenour takes a data-driven approach to his work, applying statistical analysis and high-performance computing to help inform care protocols. He has received competitive research funding and has presented his findings at national conferences, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, CHEST Symposium, and the Society for Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Gochenour values collaboration across disciplines, with ongoing involvement in projects focused on patient safety, care delivery, and education. He aims to connect clinical practice and research to help improve outcomes for children and young adults in critical care settings.
