Muhammad Uzair, MBBS, is a Clinical Research Fellow at Aga Khan University (AKUH) with a focus on pediatric critical care research. His work centers on sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), malnutrition, and childhood pneumonia, with an overarching goal of improving outcomes for critically ill children in resource-limited settings.
Uzair’s research portfolio spans epidemiologic studies, qualitative methods, and implementation science, including major projects on bubble CPAP, risk stratification tools, and PICU nutrition and organ dysfunction trajectories. He is also actively involved in a multicenter clinical trial evaluating critical care interventions for pediatric respiratory failure, contributing to protocol optimization, data coordination, and site-level quality assurance.
In addition to clinical research, Uzair is working on environmental sustainability within ICUs across Pakistan, helping develop practical frameworks aimed at reducing healthcare-related waste while maintaining high-quality patient care.
At the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) 2025 Annual Congress in Chicago, Uzair is presenting his team’s qualitative study exploring healthcare provider perspectives, implementation barriers, and contextual challenges surrounding pediatric respiratory support in LMIC PICUs.
A 2024 MBBS graduate, Uzair has authored multiple abstracts and presentations and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams across Pakistan and international partners. His career goals include advancing pediatric critical care research and developing scalable, evidence-based solutions that strengthen critical care delivery for children globally.
