Vinaya R Sermadevi, MD - Medical Director of CVICU and attending Intensivist at Mercy Hospital St Louis.
Dr. Vinaya Sermadevi completed her medical degree at Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute in Chennai, India. She then went on to complete her Internal Medicine Residency under the aegis of New York Medical College at Mary Immaculate, St. John’s Queens, and St. Vincent’s Hospitals in New York City. Following her residency, she completed a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the St. Louis University Program at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Sermadevi has been an attending physician in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Mercy Hospital since 2013, and currently serves as the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular ICU and the Director of the Cardiogenic Shock Program. In addition, she holds the position of Director of the CCM Fellowship Evidence-Based Medicine Program, a role she has held since 2015. She previously served as the Medical Co-Director of the ECMO Program from 2018 to 2022.
Dr. Sermadevi’s clinical interests include Mechanical Circulatory Support, Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, and Humanizing Critical Care. She is also passionate about Medical Education and Physician Wellness, consistently working to foster environments that support both patient care and physician well-being. One of her key contributions to the ECMO program was developing an emotional debrief process that significantly improved team dynamics, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
