Dr. Paul Vespa is the Assistant Dean for Research in Critical Care, the Gary L. Brinderson Family Chair in Neurointensive Care and Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Vespa is a fellow of the Neurocritical Care Society, The Society of Critical Care Medicine, The American Academy of Neurology, and The American Neurological Association. Dr. Vespa has been a mentor for the American Academy of Neurology’s Diversity Mentorship program TRANSCENDS and is the director of the UCLA Neurocritical Care Fellowship program. Dr. Vespa is co-founder of the Curing Coma Campaign. Dr. Vespa has been Chair of the NIH Review Committee for Acute Neurological Injuries and Epilepsy. Dr. Vespa has served on multiple SCCM committees and writing groups including the Discovery Steering Committee and Annual Program Committee. In addition, Dr. Vespa has held multiple national leadership positions including the Chair of Unified Council on Neurologic Subspecialties, Vice Chair of the American Academy of Neurology Section on Emergency and Critical Care Neurology, and President of the Neurocritical Care Society.
