Dusan Hanidziar, MD, PhD, is an attending anesthesiologist and intensivist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School. His clinical practice spans surgical and medical critical care, with a particular focus on ICU sedation management for patients with ARDS.
His laboratory studies immune mechanisms that drive acute lung injury and ARDS, with an emphasis on how exposure to hyperoxia affects the lung. This work has been supported by NHLBI funding, including a K08 career development award and subsequent R03 and R56 grants for which he serves as Principal Investigator.
His research has demonstrated that the progression of experimental hyperoxic lung injury is immune cell-dependent. His group is now testing new therapeutic strategies that aim to reduce tissue-destructive immune responses (e.g., neutrophils, NKT cells) while strengthening tissue-protective pathways (e.g., B-cell function) to treat lung injury.
