Predicting outcomes after pediatric cardiac arrest is challenging. This session will explore the current evidence for predicting good versus poor outcomes after pediatric cardiac arrest. Speakers will build on American Heart Association and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation statements on neuroprognostication in discussing the evolving role of advanced neuromonitoring, neuroimaging, EEG, biomarkers, and the neurologic examination in assessing brain injury. Nuanced approaches to prognosis will be highlighted, emphasizing the importance of tailoring strategies to children of different ages and varying preexisting chronic conditions. Speakers will focus on communication with families, including delivering prognoses and the inherent uncertainties in predicting post-arrest outcome. Speakers will also explore ethical and practical considerations of diagnosing brain death in this context. Perspectives on global variations in outcome prediction will be featured, reflecting disparities in resources, expertise, and cultural contexts. This session will encourage equitable and evidence-based approaches to neuroprognostication worldwide.
