Blood transfusion remains a cornerstone of resuscitation in the ICU, yet recent advancements in evidence-based medicine, precision transfusion, and alternative strategies are reshaping critical care. This session will provide cutting-edge insights on the optimal use of blood products, regulatory considerations across global healthcare systems, and innovative strategies for managing patients who decline transfusion. Speakers will discuss emerging therapies, machine learning applications in transfusion decision-making, and advanced blood conservation techniques. This session will prepare clinicians to apply the latest transfusion science and technology, as well as bloodless medicine management in everyday ICU practice. Speakers will explore novel biomarkers for earlier diagnosis of anemia, AI-driven decision support, preventative measures, specific transfusion thresholds, and emerging alternatives to traditional blood products for treatment of anemia. State-of-the-art diagnostic modalities, pharmacologic and blood conservation strategies, and the future of synthetic blood products will also be discussed.
