Jerry J Zimmerman, MD, PhD, MCCM
Jerry J Zimmerman is an Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care, Seattle Children's Hospital, at the University of Washington, School of Medicine, Seattle, Washington, USA. Zimmerman received BS and PhD degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. He also received an MD degree and pediatric residency training at the same institution. Subsequently he received fellowship training at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Washington DC. Previously Zimmerman served as Division Chief for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Wisconsin and University of Washington Schools of Medicine. As Co-editor of the textbook, Pediatric Critical Care, now in its seventh edition, he is familiar with the academic landscape of pediatric critical care. Currently Zimmerman serves as a Co-principal Investigator for the Stress Hydrocortisone In Pediatric Septic Shock (SHIPSS) interventional trial (NCT03401398). He was principal investigator for the NIH/NICHD, Life After Pediatric Sepsis Evaluation (LAPSE) investigation. Since 2010, he has served in leadership roles for the Society of Critical Care medicine and was President for the organization, 2018-2019. He served on the American Board of Pediatrics, Critical Care Medicine Sub-Board in various capacities 1992-2019. Zimmerman has been active in editorial activities for Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and Critical Care Explorations, since the inception of each journal. In 2009 he received the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Critical Care, Distinguished Career Award and in 2020 the Society of Critical Care Medicine Distinguished Service Award. With over 40 years of experience, Zimmerman has served on many national leadership committees to advance pediatric critical care.
