Benson S. Hsu, MD, MBA, is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and a pediatric critical care physician at Avera Children's Hospital. He serves on the Board of Regents at the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) and is Immediate Past Chair of the AAP Section on Critical Care Executive Committee.
As a Bush Fellow and Aspen Health Innovators Fellow, Dr. Hsu founded Aequitas Health, a nonprofit developing physician leaders to address health disparities, now with chapters at over 15% of US medical schools. He previously served as corporate Vice President of Population Health at Sanford Health and as a Senior Advisor for McKinsey & Company and External Advisor for Bain & Company, counseling Fortune 500 healthcare firms on organizational strategy, delivery innovation, private equity investments, and organizational change.
Dr. Hsu has authored over ten national practice guidelines for pediatric critical care, including the 2019 pediatric ICU leveling update and 2022 intermediate care unit guidance. He has published 75+ peer-reviewed articles and delivered 45+ invited presentations at institutions including NASA and Harvard Business Review. He earned his AB from Princeton, MBA from Duke (Fuqua Scholar), and MD from the University of Missouri, completing training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine.
