Jong Lee, MD is an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He is also the Chief of Staff – Burn Surgery and Jim and Susan Clawson Endowed Chair at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Texas. He obtained his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in 1992 and completed his surgical training at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center/Temple University School of Medicine in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 2001. He then completed Burn Fellowship and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch/Shriners Hospitals for Children – Texas. He has practiced burn surgery since 2002. He is active in teaching medical students, residents and fellows. He has trained 34 Surgical Critical Care Fellows and Burn Fellows. He received the Outstanding Teacher Award in the Department of Surgery six times, was selected as the Faculty Scholar of the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch for being an outstanding clinician educator, and elected to the Academy of Master Teachers at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He received the Above and Beyond Award from the University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine Class of 2024 and James W. Powers Memorial Award selected by UTMB John Sealy School of Medicine Class of 2023. He is actively involved in SCCM and serves on the MCCR Committee, ACCM Nominating Committee, and Surgery Section Patient Safety Committee. He has been recognized as one of Texas Super Doctors by his peers since 2019.
