Caitlin Thirnbeck, DO, MPH, is a 3rd year Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL. She earned her medical degree from Des Moines University and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Iowa, where she discovered her passion for caring for critically ill infants and children and for improving the systems that support high-quality, family-centered care.
During fellowship, Dr. Thirnbeck has developed clinical and scholarly interests at the intersection of pediatric critical care and medical education. Her research focuses on improving and advancing medical education for pediatric trainees. She is particularly committed to designing educational curricula that strengthen clinical reasoning, promote psychological safety in learning environments, and support trainees as they navigate evolving ACGME expectations.
Dr. Thirnbeck is actively involved in bedside teaching, mentorship, and simulation-based educational initiatives. She aims to use her background in public health and education to advance evidence-based training approaches that prepare future pediatricians and intensivists to deliver high-reliability, equitable care.
Looking forward, she hopes to build a career that integrates clinical excellence with academic leadership in medical education, leveraging innovative teaching methods to improve outcomes for critically ill children.
