Riley Hospital For Children at Indiana University Health
Focusing on service to his patients, the university and the department, he serves as chair of the unplanned extubation committee, co-chair of the IU School of Medicine maintenance of certification QI portfolio committee and medical director of respiratory care at Riley Hospital for Children and IU School of Medicine. He is also the past co-chair for the SCCM ICU liberation committee. Samer’s academic focus is respiratory-driven inter-professional quality improvement management protocols and implementing ICU liberation in pediatric ICUs, especially pediatric ventilator liberation.
Dr. Abu-Sultaneh is involved in multiple Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) sponsored multi-center studies like computerized decision support (CDS) for PARDS and LongVentKids. He is the co-chair of the international guidelines for Pediatric Ventilator Liberation and AARC and PALISI Clinical Practice Guideline for Pediatric Critical Asthma. Currently he is co-leading the implementation study of the Pediatric Ventilator Liberation guidelines through multicenter collaborative (VentLib4Kids). Continuing his interest in standardizing care and guidelines development, he became the chair for the PALISI guidelines special interest group.
