Aaron Harthan, Pharm.D., BCPPS is the lead pediatric critical care pharmacist at OSF Healthcare Children's Hospital of Illinois. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, completed a PGY-1 General Pharmacy Residency at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, and a PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Specialty Residency at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. He has been at OSF Healthcare Children's Hospital of Ilinois for 15+ years. He is actively engaged in several committees, projects, and workgroups in the organization. He is an advocate for education and helped to encourage and create both a PGY-2 Pediatric and PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Specialty Residencies within the OSF Healthcare system. He is a preceptor for PGY-1 general pharmacy residents, and PGY-2 Specialty Residents in pediatrics, critical care, and emergency medicine. He is an adjunct professor for the University of Iowa and helps educate students from several regional Colleges of Pharmacy. He provides education to a variety of healthcare professionals including nursing, physicians, APPS, Pediatric ICU fellows, medical residents, dieticians, and others when possible. He has been an author/co-author of over 15 peer reviewed articles. He is active in several healthcare organizations including PPA, SCCM, ACCP, and ASHP. He is the current president of the SCCM Midwest Chapter.
When not promoting the practice of pharmacy, he spends time with his wife and children. His wife, Liz Harthan, is the anticoagulation pharmacist for OSF Healthcare. She is an award-winning pharmacist and a constant source of inspiration. He has two children in grade school and volunteers his time to their activities when possible. He is the Treasurer for Cub Scout Troop 3018 and assistant coach for the 5th grade girls’ basketball coach at St. Philomena Catholic School.
